ONE SONG
Histoire(s) du théâtre IV
Miet Warlop
Irene Wool
NTGent
Imagine a concert with a single song performed over and over and where the musicians are also athletes, where the concert hall becomes a theatre, an arena, a gymnasium – all this set to the beat of a compulsive and random metronome.
With ONE SONG, performer and director Miet Warlop dives deeper into her extravagant and visionary world. In this hyper-physical performance, she combines theatre and pop culture (stadium, sports, pop, musicals, etc.). The twelve performers on stage are pushed to extremes: a violinist perched on a beam, a double bass player lying on their back and building up their abs, a drummer jumping up and down, a singer on a treadmill … A hypnotic performance that is performed over and over at an insistent, frenetic pace.
The fourth part of the Histoire(s) du théâtre series, this show can be seen as a metaphor for our society that has an invigorating parodic effect. In this amusing and literally haunting experience, spectators will move between amazement, dazzlement and ecstasy. They will emerge transcended from this celebration.
