Well sheltered, several people try to define what they have in common. Eager to understand and to be understood, they each use stratagems to save face. Any attempt to speak out becomes an attempt to reach an agreement for fear of upsetting the group’s fragile balance. But by trying too hard to find a compromise between hard and soft, firm and weak, this little community seems above all to indulge in the gratuitous pleasure of listening to themselves think.
Silvio Palomo and Le Comité des fêtes shut six characters up in a closed space. Pretexting the end of the world, they use a context that borders on the sensational and apocalyptic to question a small tribe compelled to live together. What remains of their habits, their rituals, their concerns? How can they reinvent a sensitive reading of their everyday life and of this territory where time, given the finitude of their world, seems to be suspended?
Abri ou les casanier·es de l’apocalypse confronts us with our most innocuous actions, and it does so to reveal the extraordinary at the heart of the ordinary.
