Les Monologues de Gaza
Théâtre Ashtar
In the winter of 2008–09, ‘Operation Cast Lead’ by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip led to the death of hundreds of Palestinians, including many children.
During this dramatic event, Ashtar Theatre collected the testimonies of thirty-three young people (ages 14 to 18). They tell us about their daily lives, war, childhood (and the loss of childhood) and suffering. They also show us the hope and strength that poetry can bring. Behind the oppression and anger, their words allow us to perceive the will of a nation trying to rebuild itself.
Directed in 2010 by Ali Abu Yasin, Les Monologues de Gaza has been widely performed around the world.
The texts will be performed in a spatialized reading live between Brussels and Gaza. Suggested by Festival Sens Interdits in Lyons in October 2022, this format highlights how difficult it is for works and artists from Palestine to circulate.
