À peu près Othello d’à peu près Shakespeare
Ben Hamidou
Jeanne Dandoy
Maya de Waele
Othello, a mythical work but which carries with it many all too well-travelled paths. Racism, feminicide, misogyny... Questions at the heart of the work of Ben Hamidou, Jeanne Dandoy and Maya de Waele. Together, they supervise thirteen young people who perform this play in a (very) free adaptation. Thirteen amateur performers who all already have a voice, a presence, a point of view and a talent. They are professionals in the making who lend their freshness to a stirring text of which they are the raw material, with their sensitivity, their humor, their questions.
This contemporary rootedness allows us to revisit Shakespeare's work with an Othello played by a black actor - unlike all the Othellos long played by whites - somewhere in Brussels through the eyes of a youth of 2023 and to offer a multidisciplinary show (theatre, singing and choreographed combat scenes) performed by men and women alike.
Followed by a DJ set by young people at 9:30 p.m. in the bar
