As an extension of the exhibition Poser pour la liberté and the program "Paroles menacées : soutenir les chercheurs et les chercheuses en danger" at l’Université libre de Bruxelles, as well as the general assembly of ICORN (The International Cities of Refuge Network), MàD imagines Mots en exil.
Because academics, journalists and artists around the world are threatened, censored, harassed, imprisoned, tortured or executed for their work, their opinions and their art. Because many of them are forced to seek refuge elsewhere. Because restricting their freedoms is restricting our own freedoms and ultimately harming democracy.
In Brussels – capital of Europe, the students of the Master in Performing Arts at ULB and the Master in Interpretation and Stage Practice at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels make their poems, life stories and invisible logbooks resonate, in the city and at the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles. Mots en exil rearticulates academic freedom, creative freedom and freedom of speech. The air of the city is liberating!
