Relaxed performances
Accessibility
Relaxed performances offer an inclusive and caring welcome. They aim to make it easier for the broadest possible audience to come to the theatre, including those with special needs or sensitivities. The usual rules are relaxed to allow everyone to experience the event in their own way, without fear of judgement or constraints. The aim is to create an inclusive environment where everyone can fully enjoy the artistic experience on offer.
Relaxed performances are inclusive. Everyone is welcome. Relaxed performances are designed to welcome all audiences, regardless of their differences. They are designed for people with particular sensitivities, or simply anyone who would like to benefit from a more relaxed environment.
- For example, people who are uncomfortable in enclosed public spaces.
- People with cognitive or mental disabilities.
- People with autism spectrum disorders.
- Parents with their babies.
- People who often need to go to the toilet.
- People with back pain who need to get up often…
On stage, the artists perform as usual. But for the audience, the atmosphere is more relaxed. The traditional codes of the auditorium are relaxed so that everyone can experience their emotions in their own way, without fear of the gaze of others and without constraints. The audience can move around, express their emotions, come and go during the show. A light is always left on in the auditorium during the performance. The volume of the music and sounds in the show is turned down. The auditorium doors remain ajar. The ushers remain in the auditorium and can help the audience or answer questions from the audience at any time.
