Scènes nouvelles is now a key annual event for Belgian and international audiences and professionals, featuring performances by emerging artists from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Always looking ahead – this year, between theatre & stand-up, performance art and dance – they are, for the Théâtre National, the most astonishing and fully engage with the world around us.
Scènes nouvelles shares what inspires the strong and singular work of French-speaking Belgian artists. No mere stunt, the festival presents six (outstanding) performances that have been staged (too little) in Brussels and Wallonia, with little or no exposure abroad, as well as one new creation, with the aim of sharing and collaborating by jointly developing the programme with a partner – Théâtre Les Tanneurs for this third edition. And more broadly, by strengthening the cultural and artistic network of the creative territories of Brussels and Wallonia, and of Europe through Common Stories, the European project the Théâtre National is involved in and whose artists selected for CommonLAB 2024 will be presented during this edition.
Scènes nouvelles sheds light on the issues of today, between free, poetic and avant-garde figures, between speaking out and social justice, and a presence sensitive to others and to oneself. Scènes nouvelles represents the power of Belgian French-language multidisciplinary creation, full of life, desire and excitement. Breathing begins here.

Stricken with mal de vivre, a number of individuals end up within the walls of an ageing institution, L’Avenir.
As the intuition of tragedy is rekindled, stories, memory and poetry are summoned to counter it.
How can we imagine a new carnival together? How can we redefine its contours and engage in carnivals today?
The story of an only daughter of Moroccan parents on the streets of Brussels, among her ‘brothers’.
This year, La Drache will host the evening with bouncy-festive music, happy hardtrance, distro-hyperpop & glitter!
