Les palmiers sauvages

The Wild Palms
William Faulkner, Séverine Chavrier

30.03 > 06.04.2019
Theatre

She leaves her husband and her children. He abandons his medical studies regardless of the heavy financial loss. Love at first sight seals the fate of Charlotte Rittenmeyer and Harry Wilbourne as their passion impels them on a road trip that turn into a descent into Hell.

“Is a passion experienced like a work of art an exclusive enterprise doomed to fail?” Séverine Chavrier is looking for the answer to that question in her adaptation of William Faulkner’s short story.
In a few sensual and all consuming scenes she shows us the wandering and the various stops they make along the way. Be it in Chicago, a cabin in Utah, or finally a bungalow by the sea, Deborah Rouach and Laurent Papot inhabit these doomed characters on their profound but pathetic, hopeless quest. Prisoners of their love they have no choice but to run headlong in this unfathomable flight.
