En bas la Ville - FRONTIERE(S)

Photographer Gaël Turine and writer Laurent Gaudé travelled together to Port-au-Prince. The exhibition En bas la ville (The town down below – anba lavil in Haitian Creole) is an impressionistic foray into Port-au-Prince which reveals the ambiance and atmosphere of a town where the streets are bursting with strength, color, tension, noise, hope, sadness, grace and nonchalance.
For the exhibition Frontière(s) Border(s), the Haitian collective decided to look closely at the border region between Haiti and the Dominican Republic and its painful past. Following the migrant crisis of 2015 and of the expulsions which followed, the border zone changed radically. Commercialization took place and returnee camps with horrible living conditions grew.
The exhibition looks exclusively at the Haitian-Dominican relations, of the border activities and of the difficult daily lives of the Haitian returnees between 2015 and 2016.
