A one-act opera born of the magic of Belgian composer Harold Noben. A classic literary work revisited in the light of our contemporary times. In this age of female liberation, Michael De Cock and Carme Portaceli transform Emma Bovary into a heroine of emancipation.
Drawing on the immortal words of Gustave Flaubert, the directors reinterpret the tragic tale of Charles Bovary’s wife. Emma dreams of a life of romance, but finds herself deeply bored, living alongside that provincial doctor with his monotonous habits. In this opera, Emma is more combative than ever; her attempts to escape reality and her struggles for freedom are presented with renewed intensity, offering the audience a profound reflection on repressed desires and individual aspirations. More than ever, Emma Bovary asserts her identity in a world that denies her these fundamental rights.
