Rage

Emilienne Flagothier

Theatre

Émilienne Flagothier and her fellow actresses orchestrate a cathartic response to the sexist micro-aggressions that punctuate women’s daily lives. Enough of the polite smiles already. Stand up and lay into them.

They have all experienced them, they all experience them, these appallingly banal situations: inappropriate compliments, indecent reflections, unsolicited explanations, inappropriate compliments, shameless jokes, unshared chores, colonized spaces, monopolized speaking times…

In this fiction based on real events, Émilienne Flagothier turns the pattern on its head. No more polite evasions, no more contrite smiles, no more cautious ignorance. Here we stand up, we beat up, we mercilessly eradicate the perpetrators of ordinary sexism. All the roles are played by four actresses who launch into choreographed fights with sound. A sketch show served cold – revenge best reveals the fullness of its flavours this way –, Rage sets the tone: the subtlest of these troublesome attitudes will be checked with a fine-tooth comb.
