The Dan Daw Show
Dan Daw Creative Projects
In an attempt to rebuild his relationship with his disabled body, Dan Daw thumbs his nose at the shame with which he grew up. This agile body, which has earned him the acclaim of a demanding contemporary dance audience, has been viewed with suspicion by those around him and judged fit only for repair by the medical profession. The Dan Daw Show rises above these perceptions to celebrate joyously a body that is both out of the ordinary and powerful.
With his partner Christopher Owen and directed by Mark Maughan, Dan Daw appropriates the codes of kink sexuality – based on dominant / submissive relations –
in an attempt to expose a body that is finally fully emancipated through submission to the other. In the context of consent and attentive communication that characterizes BDSM practices, what may seem painful or violent to the outside eye is instead experienced as a joyous and liberating explosion by those involved. In this deliberately raw show, Dan Daw also reverses the power dynamic between himself and a largely non-disabled audience.
Dan Daw’s body exults in an extraordinary connection with his dominant partner. His armour cracks in an irrepressible movement. And shame is silenced forever.
