Lucile Saada Choquet
Strictly speaking, this is not a performance, but a device open to speech and conducive to listening. In Jusque dans nos lits, the artist welcomes – on a bed surrounded by translucent curtains – racialized people for a one-to-one discussion. Lucile Saada offers a time-space open to all, where everyone is empowered.
Born in Djibouti, adopted by a white French family in the countryside and trained at Arts² (Mons) among others, Lucile Saada Choquet simultaneously asserts her decolonial position (bluntly questioning the place of racialized people in an overwhelmingly white institutional landscape) while avoiding the posture of anger through a radical dramaturgy of gentleness.
Lucile Saada Choquet is the winner of the 2022 Jo Dekmine Prize, awarded by the Théâtre des Doms, and the Maeterlinck Prize for Criticism for Best Discovery for the 2022-2023 season.
