Laïka
Ascanio Celestini - David Murgia
After Discours à la nation, Ascanio Célestini and David Murgia are back with a second work in which Christ, who has returned to earth, gazes from his window over the carpark of the supermarket next door at the comings and goings of the destitute and poverty-stricken inhabitants of his neighbourhood: a tramp, an exploited immigrant, some strikers, a prostitute, a crazy old lady…
A regular at the bar opposite and a great connoisseur of gin, this suburban Jesus generously and poetically gives a voice to the voiceless. While the title of the production, Laïka, pays homage to the small dog sent into space by the Soviets.
The author reminds us that Laïka was a stray dog, chosen precisely because strays are more resilient than the lapdogs owned by the wealthy. So, for several hours, Laïka the vagrant was the living creature closest to the common image of God in heaven.
