Room With A View

RONE x (LA)HORDE Ballet national de Marseille

01 > 04.02.2023
Dance

In the face of climate disasters, planetary conflicts and more broadly the collapse of civilization, Room With A View draws its inspiration from the beauty of chaos and the actions of protest movements of the post #MeToo era, such as Chilean feminist anthems.

Citing the war of imaginations theorized by the anticipation writer Alain Damasio, the figurehead of the electro scene RONE and the flagship collective (LA)HORDE – at the head of the Ballet national de Marseille since 2019 – recount the legitimate anger of current generations.

On stage, the world falls apart. To the sound textures of RONE, mixed live, the aesthetics of violence respond courtesy of (LA)HORDE: polymorphic, brutal and deep. The dance is both rebellion and relaxation, mastery and repression, going as far as rape and murder. The bodies of some twenty dancers convulse, vibrate, struggle until they take refuge within the mass; communities of celebrations and fights, the only ones capable of manifesting power, in a dance inspired by hip-hop and close to electro trance.

In a post-apocalyptic setting, alternately a collapsed marble quarry, then the rubble of destroyed buildings, the pulsation seizes the dancers to do justice to the anger, to the revolt. And above all, to awaken consciences and hope; through the clinch celebrated to fix ”a messed up world.” The most radiant energy suddenly takes flight.
