Angela Davis x Palace /
I Am Not Your Negro
Raoul Peck
Before Angela Davis’s arrival, Palace proposes a selection of documentary films putting into perspective on one hand her struggles and commitments and on the other the complex reality in which her activism and philosophy took root.
For this Belgian co-production, Raoul Peck based himself on an unfinished novel by the African-American writer James Baldwin. He takes us on a journey through black history, linking the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s with the very current #BlackLivesMatter.
This text, written in 1979, is unfortunately still relevant today and evokes a racism with very deep roots and a primal sense of denial of the humanity of others. The film is a powerful argument based on archival footage, film fragments and contemporary news clippings. These documents resonate with the overwhelming voice of Samuel L. Jackson.
