FRATERNITÉ, Conte fantastique

The sun disappeared for four minutes. Four long minutes. It seems like nothing that way. The world was plunged into a sort of semi-darkness. In the middle of the afternoon. And when at the end of this long time during which everyone’s eyes were fixed on the sky, finally after four minutes the sun reappeared, the men looked to their sides and what they discovered would turn their lives upside down. Half the world had been obscured. Half the humans were gone. They called this event the Great Eclipse.

This is how the story of Fraternité, Conte fantastique begins, a story which will take us on the trail of those who are left behind having suddenly lost their dearest loved one. To face their pain, to share their distress, the “Remainers” have the need to create new care tools: they then invent “Care and Consolation Centres”, a kind of empathic administration which will record the memory and the tears of the living. They look like community centres. They are populated by the wounded and by caregivers. People think and heal. Joy is also present in these spaces where our humanity is preserved.

Fraternité, Conte fantastique is the second part of the Fraternité cycle, a process of creation that revolves around the single word, the single idea, fraternité, brotherhood. Other works in the cycle include Les Engloutis (2021), a short film co-produced by Les Films du Worso and Les Hommes Approximatifs; L’Enfance, la nuit, a show created at the Schaubühne in Berlin in 2022.
